Mission

The beloved music shell on Veterans Field was erected and donated in 1958 as a gift to the Village in memory of Frank and Howard Kasschau, a father-and-son duo who significantly shaped the musical landscape in Ridgewood. The shell is dedicated to and accepted for use by the citizens of the Village of Ridgewood as a place where summer programs of fine music and related artistic and cultural endeavors may be presented to the community in a setting of natural beauty.

Dedicated on June 17, 1958, the shell's inaugural performance featured both the Orpheus Club Men's Chorus and the Ridgewood Choral. Frank led rank led the Orpheus Club (the oldest cultural institution in Bergen County, founded in 1909) for many years and was succeeded by Howard in 1943. Frank also formed the Ridgewood Choral, a women's chorus, in 1928. Although Frank passed away in 1944 and Howard in 1994, their musical legacy lives on through each performance at the shell named in their honor.

The Kasschau Memorial Shell's 2025 Summer Concert Series runs from June 5 through August 7, with performances taking place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Visit the Kasschau Memorial Shell website for details.
