REVISED APPLICATION II
(May 1, 2025)
- Geophysical Survey Using GPR December 2023
- Phase IA Archaeological Assessment February 2019
- Phase IB Archaeological Survey December 2023
- Phase II Management Summary April 2025
As part of the planning process, the Village undertook four (4) separate archaeological surveys on the Zabriskie-Schleder Property. Each of these reports is referenced and incorporated into this Application for Project Authorization. The findings from these surveys have played a critical role in shaping both the project’s treatment approach and the future planning for the site and its historical context.
These archaeological reports contain sensitive cultural resource information, including specific site locations, descriptions of artifact assemblages, and interpretations related to the Zabriskie-Schedler Property. In accordance with federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards outlined in the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation and the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) of 1979, full disclosure of this report is restricted.
The intentional or unintentional release of detailed archaeological data to the general public poses a substantial threat to the preservation and protection of non-renewable cultural resources. Specifically, the dissemination of precise site locations and cultural context information may facilitate unauthorized excavation, looting, or vandalism, resulting in irreversible damage to our resources.
To ensure the ongoing protection of these resources and to comply with the ethical and legal responsibilities of cultural resource management professionals, access to the full report is limited to qualified individuals and agencies directly involved in site management and regulatory compliance as permitted under applicable laws and guidelines.
A redacted version of this report and public summary will be made available, with sensitive content removed to protect the integrity of the cultural material.F

JUNE 27, 2025 VILLAGE OF RIDGEWOOD RESPONSE TO SHPO
REVISED APPLICATION I
(May 14, 2024)
Late yesterday afternoon, May 14, 2024, the Village of Ridgewood submitted a revised application to the State Historic Preservation Office regarding the Zabriskie-Schedler Park Project. The revision includes an independent assessment conducted by Suburban Consulting Engineers, Inc. relative to field use in the Village, which addresses comments made by the Historic Preservation Office in a letter dated March 22, 2024. A specific project narrative also was included in the revised application.

ORIGINAL APPLICATION
(February 16, 2024)
We are excited to let you know that plans for the Zabriskie-Schedler Park Project are moving forward!
Today (February 16, 2024), the Village of Ridgewood submitted an application to the State Historic Preservation Office and the Historic Sites Council regarding this long-awaited project.
The application seeks approval for a multipurpose public park to be built on the site, which is consistent with the intention of park development when the Village purchased the property in 2009. We are confident this application balances our need for additional recreational and athletic space while maintaining the historical element of the Zabriskie House.
