Breakdown of Seasons for Outdoor Sports

Aligning to New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) seasonal schedules

To ensure equitable and efficient use of our athletic fields, the BOE and the VOR will adhere to the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) seasonal schedules for Spring, Winter and Fall sports in allocating field and facility space. The NJSIAA publishes Quick Charts for each season (except summer), which list the individual sports along with the start and end dates of their seasons. Although the NJSIAA does not publish a Quick Chart for the Summer Schedule, it states the summer season period begins the Monday after the NJSIAA spring competition end date and ends on August 31st. This means there will be overlap between the summer and fall seasons as some of the fall sports may begin practices as early as August 11th.

The below graphic illustrates the four sports seasons for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years based on the NJSIAA Quick Charts and pertains to both Ridgewood School and Recreational-based outdoor sports. During the respective NJSIAA seasons, scheduled practices and games for in-season sports will have priority in field allocation. It is important to note that some spring sports, such as baseball, may have schedules that extend through the summer. Field usage during these overlap periods will continue to prioritize the in-season sport until its NJSIAA schedule concludes.
